Women wearing turbans may not have been a widespread fashion but it did
exist and was mainly sported by princesses who seem to have taken to wearing
a headdress like a man's turban. The artist has painted her in profile,
having an oval face, ample forehead, large brown eyes under sharply arched
eyebrows. He adds his imaginary touches, presenting her as a paragon of
beauty. The turban is finely patterned and tied; the transparent muslin
peshwvaz is so thin that the breasts are displayed clearly under it. As much as
her face appear confident, the hand gestures display anxiety. Her long black
tresses blend with the dark background, which has tall Asoka trees for
vegetation. The fair lady against deep green backdrop reflects strength and
dignity characteristic of Nur Jahan.
