In times when the personages and events of the Puranas and other epics are subjected to a detraction of the extreme kind, the personification of cosmic powers and the stories connected with them are painted by the illuminated imagination of the artist.
This striking scene, intriguing situation of the descent of Ganga, personality of the Hindu epics, is recorded on canvas with unerring skill. In this mythological painting, the life-like woman representing Ganga, with all her physical seductive appeal is metamorphosed into feminine ideals and a classical icon. She stands naked to the waist, her head in profile. The plaint figure harmonized like a phrase in the grand symphony of the fluid waves. The sensuality and fullness of the woman's body, has a subtle erotic flavor. Her figure and posture stimulates a classical 'Venus.'
