Kalidasa, who lived sometime between 100 BC and 500 AD, is one of India’s finest Sanskrit poets and playwrights of all time. Two thousand
years on, his lyricism remains unmatched.
In Abhijnanashakuntalam, a straightforward document of love and marriage takes on the bewitching colours of high romance that
enveloped the entire cosmos. Heaven and earth, forest and hermitage, city and palace, were held in fine and delicate balance as God and demon,
king and commoner, seer and sage meshed, connected and interacted to give us a play that kept audiences spellbound two thousand years ago.
In this contemporary audiobook presentation, the story flows as narrative with music and pictures; English and Sanskrit verse
intermingle to recreate Kalidasa’s greatest play.
