Descripción
From the Jacket:

The rich heritage of Indian miniature painting has long been the delight of collectors, art historians and Indophiles. This book introduces the generally interested, but diffident, reader to the world of Indian miniatures. It journeys into the evolution, development and decline of the schools of Indian miniature painting. The select masterpieces represented here, from collections the world over, allow the viewer to savour the genius of the painters. Of special interest is the context, portrayed through contemporary literature and chronicles which throw light on the lives and times of these master artists.

About the Author:

Anjan Chakraverty lives in Varanasi, dividing his time between painting and teaching art history at the Faculty of Visual Arts, Banaras Hindu University. After a post-graduation in creative painting, he did his doctoral research on Landscape in Indian Miniature Painting.

The first edition of his book Indian Miniature Painting (pub, 1996) was followed by Sacred Buddhist Painting (pub, 1998). He was awarded a research fellowship by the Nehru Trust and the Victoria and Albert Museum to work on The Shikargarh Matif in the Painting and Textile Art of Mughal India. On the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Handicrafts Resurgence in 2002, his monograph Ali Hasan - The Master Naqshaband of Banaras Brocades was released by the President of India. He has also published articles on textile history and nineteenth century Banaras lithographs.
